“My Mary Kay business exposed me to a new way of thinking that will change my family for generations to come.”
Heart of a lion. Several years ago, Independent National Sales Director Bridget Shaw had an appointment with destiny. Though unsuspecting of its coming, her heart was opened and her imagination awakened to the vision of what a Mary Kay lifestyle could mean for her. The picture was painted for her while vacationing in the Bahamas, where she met a woman full of passion about her own dreams, her own destiny in the making and her own awe-inspiring Mary Kay lifestyle. That woman was Independent Elite Executive National Sales Director Kathy Helou who awakened the heart of a lion. Bridget needed power, achievement, freedom and choices. The Mary Kay opportunity forecasted all of those things. And so, Bridget Shaw’s Mary Kay journey began.
“The biggest challenge came early,” Bridget recalls. “I had to learn to think like a business woman, rather than a consumer. What I love about the business of Mary Kay is this: Whatever the experience, someone has walked through it before and is always willing to speak wisdom into you. So, I sought counsel from those who were where I wanted to be.” Bridget believes that the secret to her success was based on two wise and courageous choices – aligning with others wisely and never, never, never giving up.
From being an employee to becoming self-employed, Bridget found that she needed a schedule, and Mary Kay Ash’s Six Most Important Things precept helped her create the focus needed, early on. “Also, deciding to be positive about all things sealed the deal for me,” Bridget explains. She found that she is stronger than she thought, loves even more fiercely than she did and never gives up because she knows she is blessing others through her fight. “Seeing others change for the better is the most enjoyable reward of this business,” she says. Her mentor in the business, Kathy Helou, taught her how to work and think BIG! “She loved me to success and never gave up on me. She always pushed me to be great and taught me how to work so that when I couldn’t work, I was covered.”
Bridget was drawn to Mary Kay’s values and the idea of a woman wanting all women to have a chance for a better life than she. The impact that Mary Kay Ash’s business philosophies had on Bridget, her husband, Kenneth, and her children, Kayla and Joshua, were profound. “There is no way to fully describe how the value of God first, family second and career third allowed me to have such a strong relationship with my Lord, my children and have a wonderful profession,” Bridget explains. “I never felt like I was giving up anything and appreciated the value of praising others to success. That allowed me to become confident. Now, seeing others grow and become strong is so valuable to me.” Bridget says her Area is made of women who are strong and educated. “We chose this Company for its heart.”
Bridget encourages every new Independent Beauty Consultant to treat her business with the respect it deserves and build a solid foundation that will provide income, relationships and legacy. “Be willing to grow from any disappointment and never give up” is her advice and comes from the heart of a lion.
